Should Lizzie Borden have been found guilty for the murders of Mr. and Mrs. Borden? In this article we will analyze why Lizzie Borden is guilty of these brutal and gruesome deaths and the evidence to prove it. Abby Borden was chopped to death around an hour before Andrew and Lizzie, along with the Bordens’ servant, Bridget, were the only people in the house at the time. When Lizzie realized Mr. Borden was dead, she sent Bridget to find a doctor while she was standing at the top of a staircase. Nobody was seen entering or exiting the house at the time of the murders except for Lizzie and Bridget. Borden while she was standing atop the staircase as she sent Bridget and Mrs. Churchill up to check on Mrs. Borden. This can be proven by this statement from Bridget Sullivan in Article #5 that stated ,"When I got far enough on the stairs to see into the room I saw the body on the Door and ran in and stood by the foot of the bed. It is nearly impossible that someone could have not only broken into the Borden house in broad daylight, but to also have escaped. We know this because it states in Article #2 that, “The front wall is only sixteen feet from the sidewalk, where at all hours of the day people are passing, for the street is a main thoroughfare. The next house on the north is only twenty feet away.”You might be thinking, what about their yard? The Borden’s have a fence guarded by barbed wire which was undisturbed. “The fence is covered with dust and shows no signs that anybody has climbed it; the barbed wire has not been disturbed nor torn anybody's clothing. Nobody was seen in Mr. Borden's nor any of the yards.” On top of all of this information as stated in Article #2, “Mrs. Borden was killed at least an hour before her husband.” This means the murder either had to break in and escape twice, or he had to stay in the house for an hour. This makes the possibility of another murderer, not being Lizzie or Bridget, nearly
