Locke states that a child is a blank slate that is formed only through experience. His theory is the most accurate based off real life examples and the book Frankenstein. Locke is correct because of what negative experiences do to people, what positive experiences do to people, and in the book Frankenstein. Experiences lead people to act differently such as negative experiences lead to worse outcomes, positive experiences lead to better outcomes. Negative experiences lead to worse people generally. Aileen Wuornos’ father was convicted of child molestation after her birth and a few years later killed himself in prison. At 11, Wuornos began trading sexual favors for money, beer, and cigarettes. She had her only child at 14; neighbors claimed the father was an older adult friend of Wuornos’ grandfather. Soon after, she began spending more time away from home, either living in the woods or hitchhiking around the country, often under assumed names. She was 14 when her family kicked her out of her house (Aileen Wuornos). Aileen Wuornos was a woman who killed six men in 1989-1990 and this was her childhood background and this shows that Locke’s theory is accurate. She did not have any good experiences to affect her behavior in a positive way and the bad background led to what she did. Experiences in life lead to similar experiences later in life. According to Maanvi Singh, “Babies and toddlers raised in supportive and caring home environments tended to do better on standardized tests later on, and they were more likely to attain higher degrees as adults. They were also more likely to get along with their peers and feel satisfied in their romantic relationships”(Singh). Kids who are raised in a loving environment have a higher chance at being better in school and relationships because they are supported. They have people who care about them and want them to succeed which helps motivate them to succeed. “ Positive achievement experiences and positive interpersonal relationships during childhood or adolescence were significantly associated with remission from avoidant and schizotypal personality disorders. The greater the number of positive experiences and the broader the developmental period they spanned, the better the prognosis of these personality disorders.” With a better childhood people are less likely have personality disorders and personality disorders can lead to crimes and generally just a worse life. The less chance there are of personality disorders, the better it is because people should be able to live the best life possible. Positive experiences help children test better and have better relationships, they also make the risk of a personality disorder
