Louis Armstrong, born August 4, 1901 (mistakenly put as 1900 during his lifetime) in New Orleans, Louisiana, took the world by storm, automatically jumping into music. He joined a singing quartet and even took numerous odd jobs. At the early age of 11 years old, he was sent to the Colored Waifs Home for Boys (Tikkanen 2018). This was because he fired a pistol in the air on New Year's Eve of 1912 (Fertel). In the home, he stayed connected to music with the cornet and even played in the home’s band. During his teen years, he fell in love with jazz. He was very skilled and constantly advancing. Louis then went on to join marching bands and jazz bands. He introduced new ideas of singing that would leave an imprint on society forever (Lewis 2016). Louis Armstrong is a notable hero because of his persistence and positivity. Louis was constantly searching for different ways to better himself and his musical capabilities (Manzi 2022). He was also facing racism during his lifetime, but, by keeping his positive attitude, he managed to break those barriers and make his life better. In more ways than one, as stated before, Armstrong can be identified as a hero (Manzi 2022). Even in the worst circumstances, Louis found a way to be a light in the darkness. This was proven in the Colored Waifs Home for Boys. Throughout Louis’s life, he brought love and life through music, which was his biggest impact on society. But, it wasn’t all fun and games. From a very young age, Louis faced large obstacles. His father left his mother when he was born and his mother then went on to earn her money by being a prostitute (Louis Armstrong 2019).
