Louis XVI was born on August 23, 1754. He later became the heir to the throne on his father's death in 1765, but succeeded the throne on May 10, 1774 after his grandfather died. Louis XVI was very shy, but had excellent memory and took an interest in religion, morality, and humanities. Although he succeeded the throne he was still immature, he was lacking in self confidence, his attitude was horrible, and was unable to consummate his marriage. In his early years of being king, Louis focused on religion and foreign policy. Louis early foreign policy success was supporting the American colonies fighting for independence from France’s enemy Great Britain. However, the policy is taking out international loans and not raising taxes, increasing the debt and nearly made the country go bankrupt in the mid 1780’s. When Louis got too pressured he went back to his ways of being simple and uncommunicative, having no solution to the problems, and not responding to those who offered to help. When he failed to fix France’s problems the revolution would eventually be upon him. Louis made it worse by escaping to do what he likes to do best, hunting and locksmithing. The meeting did not go the way Louis XVI expected. The third estate declared itself that National Assembly, Louis declared the assembly and void. He then called the army to restore order, the public grew with disagreement and a National Guard formed to resist Louis actions. On July 1789 Louis was forced to notice the National Assembly's authority, and on July 14 riots broke out in Paris and groups of people stormed the Bastille prison in a play of defiance toward Louis. For a time no one would respect Louis, however, he accepted advice from the nobility's and his wife Marie Antoinette. Louis ignored the advice from advisors and refused to take charge of his responsibilities, then he agreed to a disastrous attempt to escape to the eastern frontier in June 1791. Louis and his family was brought back to Paris and he lost all his power as a monarch. Things started to move faster when it was Louis final two years, in 1791 Louis tied his doubts on the prospect of war with Austria. He thought that a military defeat would pave the way for a restoration of his authority. War began April 1792, and the king’s powers were suspended. That November proof that Louis XVI’s secret dealings were discovered, and he and his family were all charged with treason. Louis was found guilty by the Assembly and charged
