Made in America, Outsourcing Labour, and the Impact on China’s Economy In recent years Americans have begun to notice the large amount of products that they purchase are from China. In the true American way after many people had pointed it out companies began to spring up everywhere across the U.S.A., but is it really changing anything? We still import thousands of goods from across the pond so what good will a small shop do?
What Is Made in America? Made in America is not a thing, but rather an idea. It state that we depend too much on China for daily activities, if war with North Korea was to break out China would most likely cut off our supplies. Even though it has changed from a central government to a more market oriented on it still has a large controlling authority. They are more modern nowadays and have stock markets, a new banking system and are more open to international trade. In 2010 they became the world’s largest exporter, but how does that affect us? We are the main buyer of Chinese products and are paying them to make products for us that is called outsourcing.
What is Outsourcing and why is it bad? Outsourcing is sending work to other countries so that they can make products for us. There are multiple reasons why outsourcing has negative effects:
1. Competition
“… educated U.S. workers are competing for the first time ever with educated but low-paid foreign workers.” Chinese workers are taking over American jobs, jobs that they could be paid for. Low paid Chinese workers do low quality work and their products go on sale for lower prices.
In a study done by consumer reports 78% of Americans would buy American made products over ones made in China or other countries. 60% of Americans would still buy the American made product even if it cost 10% more than the imported one.
As I know American products usually cost quite a bit more than imported products and that’s where most Americans draw the line. Only 20% of interviewed individuals said they would pay 20% more for an American
