Since the day I was born, my mother always told me that I was born for greatness and I could accomplish anything that I wanted if I just worked hard enough for it. She had me when she was a teenager and struggled with her college degree until she finally graduated in 2010, when I graduated from my sixth grade. Because I saw how hard it was for her to prosper, I understood that I had to be more focused and work harder than most of my classmates to accomplish my goal: become a professional woman. In my freshman year, I started broadening my horizons and I discovered that with a math major I could do so much more than to teach it; I could predict the future using math and business. This year, I chose to take two science classes and their laboratories in addition to my math class; this has made me a better student by challenging my abilities and forcing me to be more organized with my time. I also participate in school clubs by being the vice-president of CAF Club for two consecutive years (it helps cancer patients), the treasurer of the business club and part of the math club. Besides school, during the past three years I have devoted myself to the Saturday Academy at the Universidad del Turabo where I do research in the areas of statistics and mathematics. I have done seven researches and I’m currently working on my 8th one. In May 2014, I won Best Poster Presentation for my research in a symposium where I competed against more than 300 students of my country. I also have over 250 hours of community service in different institutions and work experience as a part-time employee in a Real Estate office as receptionist; where I develop my customer service and professional skills. Last year, I assisted to a week-long summer program at IUPUI, where I experienced and learnt about engineering, but I consider this year I should assist to a program where I can see up close what I’m going to study and this summer program can do that.
