In Mattie’s world the meaning of true grit is to have a lot of courage. I feel everybody except Tom Chaney has some form of true grit. For example Rooster Cogburn showed true grit because he charged against seven armed riders with two pistols on a horse by himself. However Mama has true grit because she is battling death back at home. The reason Tom Chaney has no true grit is because he is a coward.
I took the grit test I didn't know how much grit I had, the grit test is about ten questions that might describe who you are. At the end of the test, you get a score that reflects how passionate or persevering you see yourself to be. When I took the test, I scored a four point twenty out of five they said I scored higher than about 80% of American adults. To improve your grit, you have to improve your mindset, this ensures a more positive result to reach your goals. My goal is to have a corporate American job, which will increase my chances of being a productive and successful member of society, I view myself as a kinesthetic learner that has a more of a hands-on learning approach carried out with physical activities, rather than sitting down and listening to a lecture.

Duckworth and Eskreis-Winkler are saying that Grit is, having the ability to always be able to do something and to do it right way and to work very hard on it and to sustain it rather than not giving your all to it.

Grit and having a growth mindset have been a great asset when it comes to success. The general idea of being gritty is having motivation to push through obstacles despite the difficulty. A growth mindset is someone who will look at what they have as just the beginning start to what could be, opposed to believing that what they start with is what they are limited to. The two together are a great package because if an individual had a growth mindset perspective and the drive of being gritty, they will see a challenge and keep going regardless of failure and setback that will lead to accomplishing their desired task instead of giving up.
