Pot, Weed, Grass, Trees; these are the many names of the one drug that causes so many issues in todays society, Marijuana. It is loved by so many, but absolutely hated by the law. Marijuana is known as the oldest and commonly used drug in the world. As a Schedule I drug it is known as something to temporarily pull the mind from reality and alter ones state of consciousness. The smell is distinct and there are millions of individuals smoking it today. The effects of this chemical deals with the receptors from the brain. By smoking weed it slows down bodily functions and makes you more relaxed and delays your reaction time. It gives you that euphoric feeling by releasing the dopamine into your system giving you that pleasurable moment making users wanting more. Long ago it was easier to obtain and was used for medical purposes as well as other reasons. According to Martin A Lee “It wasn’t just a recreational use to many but a essential element of life, some looked at it as some sort of medicine.” The first marijuana law in America took place back in Jamestown within the agricultural industries. Agriculture farmers were ordered to grow these plants. In the earlier days hemp was used for centuries for food, clothing, incense, rope etc. It was used as remedies for families as well as spiritual ways within individuals religions. Many U.S Presidents also used marijuana. Many didn’t smoke it, but used it in liquid form as a medicine simply like how we use aspirin today to cure mild health issues. However, in todays world it is a recreational drug that is used to alter ones state of consciousness, a way for people to unwind and relieve stress. Many do not use it for clothing purposes like originally intended. Although it is a law and illegal, not much enforcement is conducted to combat its existence. It is typically a drug that gets pushed aside and many do not worry to much about it since there are bigger issues going on in our society.
