Martin Luther King Jr was born on January 15, 1929. His name given to him at birth was Michael King Jr, that was later changed during his lifetime. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia to his loving parents of Michael King Sr and Alberta Williams King. Martin Jr was born into a family that believed strongly in religion. His grandfather was a rural minister; later his grandfather moved to Atlanta around the time Martin Jr was born. After his grandfather died, Martin Sr took over being pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church. At this time Martin Sr took the name Martin Luther King Sr after the Protestant Leader Martin Luther. King refused to leave as well as a few of the students. This lead to them getting arrested. This was not the first time they had done this. They did this in 27 other cities in North Carolina. They were successful with their other sit-ins in the other cities.The mayor did not want a bad reputation in Atlanta so he decided to drop the charges. Martin did not follow through on his probation (because of traffic conviction) and was imprisoned. He was soon released because of John F. It was wearing him down to the extreme. He had had led multiple marched up until this point. He was planning just one more not knowing that it would be his last one in his whole life. On April 3rd, Martin Luther King Jr gave his last speech read,” I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we, as a people, will get to the promised land.” The next day when Martin Luther King Jr was standing outside his balcony of his hotel, he was struck by a sniper. After a long two month hunt for the man who did this, they found James Earl Ray. He pleaded guilty of the assassination. He was sentenced to 99 years of prison. James died in prison April 23,
