Michelle Obama is passionate about higher education. Her dream is for everyone to get their college degree, no matter who you are or where you came from. As the first lady, one of her many initiatives was to inspire every parent to encourage their child to go to college and graduate. She knows how important it is for success in the future. The value of a four-year college education is one of the most valuable things that you can get, and Michelle Obama knows this. This is why she attended both Harvard and Yale University. There are endless opportunities that come from attending a four-year college. There are many more than any other type of postsecondary school. There are the options of going to a junior college or even stopping after high school. The best option is attending a four-year college. Four-year college’s give you easy opportunities to make connections, you can make them with other students, faculty, and alumni. Since they went off to college their pay will be higher than if they just went straight into the workforce after high school. Author David Leonhardt’s article “Is college worth it? Clearly, New Data Say” shows how important a college degree really is. He states, “Americans with four-year college degrees made 98 percent more an hour on average in 2013 than people without a degree.” This is a substantial difference and this pay gap continues to increase throughout the years.
