Summary
The purpose of this memo is a request for authorization to conduct primary and additional secondary research for the accommodations needed for employees with migraines in the Fiscal Services Department of Southern Shirts, Inc. to operate in healthier working environments. Employees often miss work due to migraines, as nausea, vomiting, and possible speech problems can be debilitating. When employees at work experience a migraine, pain and sickness from a headache reduce productivity. Reduction in productivity means co-workers labor on additional assignments, making for low morale throughout the company and a decrease in profit.

To lower the symptoms of having migraines, the triggers that cause the migraines need to be removed from the surrounding areas of the employees who suffer from these draining headaches. Relocating employees to a room without windows, providing employees with adjustable artificial lighting, moving employees to an area with less traffic, and implementing a fragrance-free environment policy are ways we can accommodate employees with migraines. Once making the accommodations, employees can concentrate on the job duties, making for a more productive workday. Benefits from Research on Migraines in the Workplace
There are benefits in helping employees who are suffering from the painstaking headaches. Removing such triggers as noise, smells, and lighting establishes benefits for the employee and the employer. One benefit for the employee is receiving a larger paycheck. The larger paycheck as a result of the employee working instead of being absent from work due to the debilitating headaches. Improving morale happens when reducing triggers so that employees will accomplish their own duties. Productivity increases because every person is now on task and morale is higher.
Hiring employees are expensive. Recruiting for the position is the first of many steps that will cost the company money, time, and effort. Reviewing the applications, interviewing the applicants, training the new hires, not to mention the payment of overtime for the current employees covering the vacant position, are all expenses the company should have to deal with on a minimum basis. Keeping the current staff aboard will reduce costs, also helping to increase profits.
