Why is effective listening important for Army leaders? You have to be physically and mentally listening to be an effective listener. This essay should show that effective listening is a large contribution to the army, helps pass accurate information from leaders to Soldiers, and to improve the listening skills within leaders. Listening is not hearing. Listening involves analyzation to help understand the words. Leaders that are mindful are not just hearing conversations; they are listening to the Soldiers and engaging in the dialogue. While listening to Soldiers, it is important for leaders to be aware of the right things to say. Leaders should focus on what their Soldiers are saying to them instead of spacing off. Do not be a fake listener and do not let other things distract you. When attending classes, leader should be physically and mentally prepare to listen. Listening helps build friendship and demonstrates that leaders care about their Soldiers. Listening is a given, and leaders can model this behavior. When leaders are good at listening, their Soldiers will tend to listen more carefully to them in return. Leaders should not automatically trust everything their Soldiers say. Leaders should collect all the information from their Soldiers and carefully analyze what they are saying. Leaders should collect accurate information from soldiers to make fair judgement between them when it comes to complaint. Leaders need to show that they are listening, interested, and providing feedback to the Soldiers. Leaders need to try their best and be actively absorbing the information given to them. When the Soldier is talking fast or given unclear statement for leader to understand and confusing, leaders need to ask questions and make sure they understand what actually troubling
