Steele demonstrate that Monsanto already dominates the United States food chain with their genetically modified seeds. They are currently targeting milk production which is just as scary as the corporation's legal battles against the small farmers. This situation leads to a history of toxic infections or diseases. There were many disagreements between Gary Rinehart and a stranger about the innovative seeds. They were under surveillance and an investigator came in the picture.
Monsanto has created some of the top innovating products for agriculture in the entire world. Monsanto started as a chemical company which would later evolve into a giant seed company. As stated before, Monsanto struggled with criticism over most of their products. During the stage of Monsanto’s chemical productions, the colossal company created Roundup which is a chemical herbicide to fight away insects and other harmful components to plants. Roundup immediately experienced negative feedback from the agricultural specialists.
I believe Monsanto acted unethically when they went above and beyond to deceive their customers. The lied about the safety of their product. I know that marketing for a genetically modified seed is hard because a lot of people believe it’s harmful, but Monsanto shouldn’t have claimed that independent researchers support their product and believe it is safe, meanwhile they were editing the reviews and providing the data. They didn’t only cause harm to their customers (through their product), but they also lied and deceived to get more customers. Monsanto should have proved the safety of their product in a different way, or found a way to make the product less toxic and harmful to people.
The operations of Monsanto walk a fine line between pure product focus and moral obligation. Although not as fierce in the United States, world hunger is an enormous feat to overcome and only continues to grow as the world population increases. The core focus and positioning of Monsanto is imperative to its long-term success. The worldwide goal of farming is to produce the largest yield while inflicting the least amount of damage to the environment (Langreth & Herper, 2010).
Eugenio Hamann, a GMO soy farmer, referring to the evolving weeds, states “Yes, we have a lot of problems with weeds because they’ve become so resistant to glyphosate that we’ve had to mix it with other products” (8:48). The worst part about this issue is the fact that these pests and weeds become tolerant to the chemicals, which causes farmers to use more of these pesticides and herbicides or even mixing these substances to control the pests and weeds. Although the potency or mixing of these chemicals becomes effective, the downside is that these potent herbicides and pesticides are now even more toxic to human health because farmers utilize larger quantities of herbicide and pesticide to get the same result. Chemicals that started off as harmless and “non-toxic” become very toxic because of the abnormal amount that is used for it to be effective.
When conducting research there are many different types of measurements that businesses use to accurately collect information. A broad definition of ethics is about doing the right thing, that is, to be fair and to be just to people who ever they are and where ever they are. And regarding food people should have a right to access food easily and cheaply and that the food itself is not harmful to their health. After all food is about human survival.
GMOs are considered to be the next agricultural “innovation” as some would say, but this is incorrect. They think that GMOs are a way to feed everyone on earth. Giving them the nutrients that they need to grow in conditions that most plants can’t live in, while not causing harm to physical and environmental health. They are wrong. GMOs do more harm than good.

But it was not popular until the late 1990s; it became popular after Monsanto’s ingenious marketing strategy started and an upsurge in the market was noticed. This was because Monsanto was producing genetically engineered seeds for commercial cultivation of food crops which can tolerate the high doses of Roundup as weedicide.
Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, are widely used in order to produce more food in a shorter period of time. Along side these GMOs are pesticides. Pesticides are used to kill any insect that may try to eat the crop that is being grown for human consumption. Because pesticides are poison, many people try to stay away from consuming them. With the rise of GMOs and pesticides, many people are looking towards a more green option for fruits and vegetables: organic.
These crops have been modified to increase natural toxin levels and contain proteins known to cause allergic reactions and lead to health risks. Monsanto’s herbicide “roundup” has been linked to severe drops in bee and monarch butterfly populations along with the creation of herbicide resistant super weeds.
As Monsanto is a multinational company whose products are consumed by the food industry, it has to strictly emphasize on its moral obligations concerning the society where their products are being sold. Such moral obligation includes providing best quality of seeds to the consumers and betterment of farmer’s life (Stern, 2011). For this purpose Monsanto ensures high yielding properties of their seeds and it would prevent against insects eating their precious crops. This would ease the farmers in keeping their crops safe and reduce their hassle to sprinkle pesticides for crop safety. On the contrary these genetically modified seeds reported in causing health related issues on consuming the food grown from them.
