Like the great kapok tree, I have grown tall, strong, and resilient. Introduction: Calories have developed a negative connotation as a result of the media. The word calorie is automatically associated with weight; the two words are not synonymous. Put simply, a calorie is a unit used to measure energy. Every living and nonliving thing has energy. In respect to organisms that are consumed, calories are the measure of energy that is absorbed after consumption. Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, are widely used in order to produce more food in a shorter period of time. Along side these GMOs are pesticides. Pesticides are used to kill any insect that may try to eat the crop that is being grown for human consumption. Because pesticides are poison, many people try to stay away from consuming them. With the rise of GMOs and pesticides, many people are looking towards a more green option for fruits and vegetables: organic. An organic plant has not been treated with any pesticide, has not been planted in soil that has come in contact with any kind of pesticide or chemical for at least three years, and may not be modified genetically in any way.
