Some experts claim that GMOs can solve the world 's hunger problem, however, it is not a black and white question, meaning that it is not a simple question to answer and people have different opinions on whether it is positive or negative for our country. A GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species extracted and artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. The foreign genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or even humans. This can cause problems, that can be extremely dangerous, nevertheless, it can help plants protect themselves from certain diseases or animals. On the other hand, proven that there is a possibility that it can cause cancer and other diseases. In North Dakota, they genetically modified sugar beets so pesticides would not ruin the crop, however they have the highest rate of stomach cancer in the U.S. Scientists have linked GMOs, used to modify the sugar beets, back to people having cancer. Notwithstanding, people try to deny that modifying the sugar beet was the cause of everybody parlaying stomach cancer. Proven as a fact, that the modified sugar beets caused the stomach cancer, so the company that came out with the genetically modified sugar beets, sued for not testing the chemicals for cancer and diseases. This is just one example of how GMO’s can harm the human body. If you think about it all of our food genetically modified, think about how they are harming our body and we have no understanding about what problems it may cause. Consequently, people are oblivious to what they are eating, as a result of, it is ordinary for our food to look like it does, when genetically modified to look and taste differently.
