Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a child prodigy, who grew into a amazing composer and musician. He is a household name, and his music lives on in history. But how much do we really know about Mozart, and how much of the information we know about him is really fact. Do we learn about him in movies and hold what they say as truth, or do we search farther and see what history really shows. One example in which you must really question the evidence given about his life; and search to find what is fact or fiction is in the movie Amadeus. In this movie you see Mozart’s life and career play out in Veena in the 18th century. But how much of this was real life and how much was dramatization by Hollywood. You can see how magnificent Mozart really was a such a young age in the article Mozart and Allegri's Miserere. When Mozart was only fourteen years of age his father took him to Rome, while he was there he heard a piece of music that must have left him completely moved. After hearing this he went back to where he was staying and by memory he wrote the entire piece of music down note for note. This alone would show what a musical prodigy the young boy truly was ("Mozart and Allegri's Miserere"). In the movie Amadeus by Peter Shaffer you can see they depict Mozart in a terrible light as far as his behavior. Salieri’s quote stating Mozart was “a giggling dirty-minded creature”, he was inappropriate, drank excessively, and really had no regard for showing any respect towards nobility (Brown, 1992). This quote and these other examples really capture how Mozart was represented in the film. But is this how he truly behaved, is this really the image he gave off to people. Well according to the article “Amadeus” and Mozart: Setting the Record Straight by A. Peter Brown, the answer is no.
