Mr. Bennett should not be found guilty of the murder of Mr. Adams because reasonable doubt exists. Although the prosecution claims he was guilty, they are incorrect because when he found Mr. Adams died he immediately checked for a pulse and didn't find one after checking. Mr. Bennett's fingerprints were not found on the coffee cup that was used for his coffee. The strongest piece of evidence is that Mr. Alfaro’s prints were also found on the coffee mug. The rat poison found in the cupboard was only available to exterminators. Mr. Alfaro was an exterminator and was seen pouring Mr. Adams a cup of coffee five minutes before Mr. Adams left the room and eventually collapsed. Mrs. Reid could have very well hired Mr. Alfaro to come to the party and poison Mr. Adams and make it look like an accident so that once he was dead she would get his money because she believed that she would get it because she was the closest to him relatively wise. Another piece of evidence was that Mr. Bennett was the first to find Mr. Adams’s body in the kitchen. He immediately checked for a pulse and couldn’t find one. Mr. Bennett told authorities that he touched the puddle of spilled coffee when he knelt by Mr. Adams to check for a pulse. If Mr. Bennett did kill Mr. Adams, he would not have checked the pulse of the dead man because he already would have known that he was dead. Finally, Mr Bennett is not guilty because a box of rat poison was found in the lounge kitchen cupboard right next to the box after the murder. A coffee cup was on the floor near Mr. Adams. The cup contains rat poison residue. Mr. Alfaro’s prints were found on the cup.
