Mr. James Eagan Holmes is a 30 year old male, currently housed at County Jail. The Aurora Police Department arrested Mr. Holmes on July 20, 2012 for committing the mass murder of 12 individuals and wounding 70 others, who attended a midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” at the Century 16 multiplex in Aurora, Denver. Mr. Holmes is charged with Murder 1st Degree, Attempted Murder 1st Degree, Possession of an Illegal Explosive, and Sentence Enhancement for a Crime of Violence. Following his arrest, Mr. Holmes was found unfit, and transferred to the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital and discharged to County Jail, where he awaits trial. Mr. Holmes’ attorney, Ms. Brady, requested a forensic evaluation to help evaluate Mr. Holmes’ mental state at the time of his alleged offense. Holmes recalls getting ready for the commission of the offense by putting on bulletproof clothes, gloves, and a gas mask. Mr. Holmes added that he wore the AR-15 rifle over his shoulder, tucked the Glock into his belt, and carried the shotgun. Mr. Holmes stated that he believed the F.B.I. was following him as he drove his white Hyundai to Century 16 multiplex, to stop him from going through with the offense. The defendant added that as he stepped out of his car, minutes before the incident, he called a mental health hotline at his former university where he failed out of a doctoral program in neuroscience.
