I live in the very middle of the United States. If you were to point to the middle of a map you would be very close to where I live. Ames, Iowa is a college town full of competition and opportunity which I have gladly accepted. Being a senior, I am beginning to reflect on what I've accomplished so far, what I would like to get out of my own college experience and where I see myself in the future.
My high school career was very involved. I enjoy being a part of what’s happening at Ames High School. One of the best things about Ames High School has been access to classes like AP Psychology, AP European History, Sociology and countless Art classes. Classes like these were challenging and stretched my thinking further than I thought possible. Through my AP European History curriculum I have been offered the opportunity to travel across Europe this summer, it’s something I've been hoping for all of high school.
The University of Iowa has a culturally diverse community that is full of intellectual people. The campus is the kind of place I can see myself thriving. I can see myself cheering on the Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium and participating in casual debate with peers at Caribou Coffee. I’ve always been very social and a leader among my friends so I'm considering Greek life or any opportunity that gets me more involved in campus life.
My strengths in the humanities have led me to strong interests in social work. During the first quarter of my senior year, I volunteered at a low-income housing unit. I had always known I was drawn to helping others, but this experience cemented my aspirations for the future.
