With my SPAD 295 internship coming to a conclusion I have had the opportunity to learned so much from Pepperdine’s Athletics Department. I had the opportunity to work alongside Amanda Rowe in the business department and learn the importance of maintaining and organized accounts for inventory, receipts, and files for the Athletic Department. I also got to work alongside Gregory Salvage, the manager of athletics facilities and events, and learned what goes in to running and setting up for volleyball, beach volleyball, and baseball games. I personally enjoyed the overall experience of the internship. It taught me many things that I did not know before and has encouraged me to continue in the path of sports administration. This works against the student and the program. It can be difficult to complete that many hours for students that have many jobs, classes, sports, or other commitments, but is also difficult for the department to find meaningful use of the interns hours. There were times where I had to leave the office early because there wasn’t much to do, work on projects that had weren’t related to the business department, working on simple task with other interns, or wait a long period of time till a new project or task was given. Another weakness of the program was the the lack of exposure all seasonal sports. Since the internship last one semester, it had a very limited window of what sports we are able to interact with. For example, in the spring semester I was only able to help run volleyball games primarily. I would have liked to help out in other sports that weren’t in season at the time such as water polo and soccer. A simple way to fix these weakness would be to expand the program into two semesters for a more richer and fulfilling
