The book name “My Freshmen Year” by Anthropologist and professor at AnyU Rebekah Nathan, enrolls to school as a freshmen at her own university for her research. She decides to act a student and hides her true identity to know valid and true opinions about American students and schools from international students. She also wants to know their experience compare to their native country. She starts to interview students formally and informally in her dorm regarding various subjects for instance; friendship, social life, US academic polices, classroom and professors compare to their native country and their point of view about world view. She gave an anonymous survey to both parties to know their honest opinions about other party. According to the survey, “60% of the Americans relate to international students better than Americans and 50% of the international students relate to American students better than international”(Stahl 2). Therefore, 10% American students get along more with international students; the ration for American students is higher than international students when it comes to getting along. American students wrote many positive comments about international students. Such as, Oberlin College student Noa said, international students are very motivating and they are better and well-formed than American students. Another American student from North Dakota state university said, “I [s/he] make[s] an effort to get to know them because I [s/he] think[s] all of their international backgrounds and cultures are so fascinating and I [s/he] would be truly blessed to get to experience a small sense of their life through what they tell me [him/her]” (Stahl 5). One of the major reasons American students like international students on campus because of their different cultural background and experience. International students can show the country and world with different point of view using their different cultural experience said a student at Marymount University. As opposed to American students’ positive and friendly view toward international students, international students don’t want to come out of their comfort zone and get along with American students. They have tendency to stay close to their international students group, which makes the friendship harder for American students said Kristin from southern IL.
