Personal Philosophy of Nursing
Many resources have tried explain philosophy but Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary describes it as “an analysis of the grounds of and concepts expressing fundamental beliefs“(2015). Before one can make a career decision it is very important that they explore their personal values and principles that will guide them in their practice. My philosophy is one that focuses on empowering each patient I come across in the delivery of holistic nursing care. In this paper I am going to elaborate on my nursing care beliefs and values and the importance of nursing care environment in relation to patient health.

Also, due to the continually evolving nature of nursing science, I believe it is very important for nurses to update themselves with current evidence based guidelines in order to facilitate the healing process of their patients.
Person
While growing up in the underdeveloped country Ghana, located in the western part of Africa, I was exposed to many diseases. During my visits to the clinic I was often seen by a nurse practitioner. Even though I hated going to the clinic because of the fear of getting a shot, I will never forget how the nurse practitioner used to place me on his lap while he examined me and offer me a candy before he even asked me how I was feeling.
My personal experience with the nurse practitioner- patient relationship fueled my interest in pursuing a career in nursing. Through this life experience I developed the belief that as nurses, the cares we extend to patients have a long lasting effect on their lives. As an upcoming nurse I have decided to make my patients very comfortable and believe that focusing cares on the needs of my patients play a very critical role in their health promotion
