Teaching Philosophy I believe a teacher’s role should be of a facilitator in the classroom. Children should be free to explore various areas. I have set up the classroom in different working areas in which the children are free to choose where they would like to work. The classroom activities are based on the children’s interest. I create a loving an accepting environment where the children feel free and safe to express themselves. The most important role of the teacher should be to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
My philosophy of how children learn and develop is through play and exploration. All children learn at their own pace. Piaget helped promote the idea of active learning and construction. While Vygotsky's added how teachers can promote active learning through scaffolding and the zone of proximal development (Miller,2006). Children should have the freedom to problem solve or share ideas through interactions both with children and adults.
In my opinion I know that in the classroom there are children of different backgrounds, personalities, and learning styles. It's my job to provide an environment that covers all these styles. I have set up my …show more content…

Children learn by active learning, it gives the child the chance to explore different ways of using objects, concepts, and experiences. In high scope the teacher stays close to what children already know and then helps them to move to the next step. By having dialogue between the child and I, I am providing guidance and support. As mention in the first paragraph Vygotski's theory is that children learn through scaffolding and the zone of proximal development. As a teacher I work close to the children to provide assistance and to scaffold through their experiences. High scopes lesson plans are based on the interest of the children and on the school readiness goals that we set in collaboration with the children
