I have been doing volunteer work at Alachua County Library District – City of Alachua Branch since the beginning of December, 2015. I mostly got into the volunteer work at the library because it is one of the easiest places to get volunteer hours for school, but it was also my first choice because I love libraries, books, reading, organizing, and helping people. During my short time as a volunteer I have learned many skills that will help me in my academic and working careers in the future. Some of these skills include punctuality, time-management, communication skills, professionalism, work ethic, organization, and a variety of other important skills that are useful and almost necessary to exhibit in life. It would also be a great way to build my resume with meaningful work, and hopefully earn a letter of recommendation for future jobs and colleges. I am a junior in high school, and although I believe I am mature and responsible right now, I know that I can grow in both of these aspects of my life; and I know that an internship will help me to do so. It’s a great opportunity and I don’t want to miss out on anything that it has to offer.
This is something that I want to do in order to gain experience and skills, and I think that the library is a great place to start. It’s a good environment to practice the skills that I previously mentioned, and I know that I am helping my community every time I go in to do volunteer work. I’m already gaining a ton of experience through my volunteer work, but having a paid internship on a resume for college or jobs will give me some extra points and consideration.
