Counseling Plan for a Narcissistic Group People as a general population tend to group together by mutual needs and similarities. In the group the goals provide a way to thrive and be task-oriented in the therapeutic process. The group leader must have an effective way of leading the group, while being sensitive of the individual needs in the group. A plan allows for a counselor to think ahead and with proper strategic interventions run a counseling group effectively. The group needs to know what to expect by setting group rules, discussing the role of the group leader, and procedural information. For this group the initial stage will last for the first two weeks with four sessions. The rational for doing this that “it is not uncommon for the members of certain groups to take more than two sessions to feel enough trust and comfort to share beyond the surface level” ( Jacobs, Masson, Harvill & Schimmel, 2011, P.36). This is especially true for narcissists who rarely show their inner selves, but instead exploit others and lack of empathy. The first goal in week one and two is to introduce the group to the purpose and structure of the group. In doing so the members will know what is expected from the group, themselves, and the group leader. The second goal is to identify the members in the group. The group needs to know a little about each other in order to trust.
