Everyone is shaped and molded by what they do and the choices they make each day. Whether they know it or not, they make one choice-one friend, one child, one house- and they alter the course of their life from then on out. Personally, one of the hardest and most life changing choices I ever had to make was moving to the United States.
As a child, I lived in Qingdao, a port city which was on the eastern coast of China, as well as one of the largest in its province, which was named Shandong. My parents had moved to China 5 years before having me and continued to live there until I was almost 7. I remember wondering where all the tall buildings were and why there were so many churches. I remember being thrilled to see my grandparents after our long day and a half of flights. Most of all, I was happy. However, my first day at my church was rather awkward. I walked into the middle of one of our church’s VBS nights and seeing all these people greeting me thinking “Who are you and how do you know my name?” (I still do not know some of their names.) My first day of school was even more awkward for me. Everyone had already established their friends by the beginning of second grade, and me being not only a new kid, but one of the smartest in my class and not having any friends was very hard for me. There was a point where I hated going to school because there were those mean girls who would not say a word, but merely being in their presence made me dislike them. Eventually I settled in, but I moved schools between 2nd and 3rd grade because my parents were not happy with what had been happening in school.
