This Individual Development Narrative discusses various factors relating to theories of lifespan development from birth through to my adolescent stage. This includes looking at the understanding and major theoretical perspectives of psychology and human development, its process and the influences of domains on human development across the lifespan and how they interrelate. The domains of development including Physical, Cognitive, Emotional and Social-cultural &/or moral. Also some of the human lifespan stages are Prenatal (prior to birth), Infancy (0-2yrs), Early Childhood (2-5yrs), Middle Childhood/School Age (5-12yrs), and Adolescence (13-20yrs). Cognitive development is the changes that take place in mental abilities and skills over time. It is the activities of knowing and the process through which knowledge is acquired. It includes perceiving, learning, remembering and thinking. A model or a map of the world is an object and also represented the world as we know it Children gradually become aware of dual representation (Berk, 2008). The process of Cognitive development is when children develop through experience; that experience build and refine a basic mental processes, people use to make sense of information to plan an action to be followed. For example; when I was 4 years old, I remember my father showed me how to use a toy to call my mother. I responded to the toy as I actually thought that toy and the phone have no differences and to believe that it was my mother replied to everything I asked her through the toy. The experiences challenged me and what I was thinking, and it was causing an imbalance or lack of equilibrium. Scaffolding adjusting the support offered during a teaching session to fit the child’s current level of performance. Children whose parents were effective scaffolds used more private speech, were more successful when attempting difficult tasks on their own, and were advanced in overall cognitive development (Berk, 2008). Adolescence is the transitional stage. It is the puberty-adulthood with approximately 12-18 years of age. “Rebellion” and “Peer pressure” (Berk, 2008). Adolescence gains through their own personal beliefs, values and behaviours. They can understand themselves and what they become; who they are? thoughts and feelings about self-concept and identity. We all have our own values, beliefs and attitudes that we have developed throughout the course of our lives. Our family, friends, community and the experiences we have which all contribute to our sense of who we are and how we view the world. For example; some of my values are my family. Family comes first, I cannot live a day without talking or listening to them, they are my everything and we are caring for each other. I valued my culture because of individually as adverse to be in a group of friendly people. Religion, I believe that everything I chose to do is right, whether is wrong and I also believe in God. I valued the Educational institutions such as valuing myself in relation to an ability to study at AUT. Alongside the influences of Social/ cultural and moral development in adolescence are the relationships adolescents have with their parents, siblings, our personality, electronic device and especially Peers/ or friends of their social sphere play a vital role in their development.
