Neo Darwinism: Macroevolution And Natural Selection

715 Words3 Pages

Neo Darwinism is one of the many theories of origin that students are studying. Neo Darwinism is about evolution from natural selection. This would results in variations of animals by genetic mutation and crossing over. This represents a synthesis of Charles Darwin’s theory about natural selection and modern population genetics of Gregor Mendel. The evidence that supports Neo Darwinism are microevolution and natural selection because they can be prove by Neo Darwinism. While macroevolution does not support Neo Darwinism because it is much harder to prove. Microevolution is a change in gene frequency within a population. This evolution can be observed over a short period of time. An example of this is the evolution of mosquitoes that resist …show more content…

The factors that lead to macroevolution are when microevolution occurs repeatedly over a long period of time and lead to a new species. The other factor is from a major environmental change, such as a volcanic eruption, earthquake, or an asteroid hitting Earth. These result in changes on the environment so much that natural selection leads to large changes result in creation of new species. An example of macroevolution is the evolution of the sirenians. The sirenians are a group of mammals within the placental mammals. They are also known as sea cows, they are the only herbivorous aquatic mammals. They share a common ancestor the elephants and the extinct mammoths. Macroevolution has changed the sirenians and we know that because of the vestigial structures in their bodies. These are the evidences that support the Neo Darwinism to be the theory of origin of life. Neo Darwinism is one of the well documented evolution, and can also see a lot of changes in organisms and population of organisms. There are also transitional forms are found in the fossil record for speciation …show more content…

Even though microevolution is an easy to proof process, macroevolution is much harder to prove. There has been no fossil records of transitional forms. This lead to baseless conjecture that macroevolution has no mechanism other than to claim that vast amounts of time make anything possible. Neo Darwinism also does not explain the origins of the new genes/traits other than claiming that mutations and time make new species. Mutations are also not a good source of genetic variety. Bacteria is the only organism where mutation can be a good source of genetic variety. There have been proofs that meiosis and sexual reproduction are the main source of genetic variety for sexually reproducing
