This essay is a discussion on the NHS constitution. This essay will briefly talk about the NHS in terms of when the constitution was created, who it was created for, how it works and its expectations. One of the main aspects that will be talked about is equal access to care for all individuals within the UK.

The NHS was created by the minister of health Aneurin Bevan on July 5th 1948 (Aylward, are Bevans principals still applicable in the NHS? 1000 lives, 2011) plus based on three main principles, that it meets the needs of everyone, that it be free care treatment and that it be based on clinical needs of individuals and not ability to pay. It was created for everyone who is entitled to NHS services. In 2011 the department of health published the NHS constitution which shows the principles and rights of the NHS and the rights of patients in the NHS. These rights show the patients how to access health services and the good care patients will receive.

The equality Act 2010 sets out the equality duty, which helps with improving and providing quality of care as well as maintaining professional standards between patients and staff no matter what race, …show more content…

Health can be affected by a number of reasons including social issues, and discrimination. The NHS aim to ensure that their services and employment practices are a true picture of the commitment to equal rights and opportunities. The equality act 2010 gives the NHS time to work towards trying to stop discrimination and avoiding inequalities in care. The NHS have clear values and rules about quality and fairness set out in the NHS
