Customer service is a phrase that is used out of context on a regular basis as it is considered the area where you go to complain and return things. On any given day stories can be heard about an awful service experienced by a neighbor, co-worker, or a total stranger whether it was due to the lack of product or the lack of professionalism of the workers. While there is nothing the listener can do immediately, the information does not go unnoticed as “word of mouth” is a very important tool used in the business industry. ‘A career in retail is a fast pace and ever changing one according to Dunne, Lusch, & Carver, ( 2011, p. 34).

Information control plays a major role in the daily operations of any successful business however Nordstrom provides ownership of such information to associates thereby empowering individuals and departments to “grow their business” within the company. Hourly tracking systems are used in almost every aspect of daily operations and information is communicated throughout the store in a uniformed fashion.
Nordstroms has multiple strategies that are used in singular on combinations in order to achieve a common goal. Associates are recognized for success as well as effort which promotes a uniformed since of pride among fellow associates. The positive support and growth experienced in the business is easily translated into a positive shopping experience. The behavior control is crucial to the success of the business as Nordstrom takes pride in becoming a community asset in various ways such as charitable donations, volunteer services to non-profit organizations, and fund raisers for organizations such as United Way. Associates are encouraged to learn as much as possible about ways to positively impact the community by way of exceptional customer service in the store and throughout the respective
