Chapter thirteen provides us with an overview of energy consumption in the services sector. The services sector is also called the tertiary sector. This sector is a segment of the economy that provided services to consumers. According to our course studies, services is defined as “processes, deeds, and performance coproduced or provided by one entity for another entity” (Dahlstrom & Crosno, 2018). There are a wide range of businesses that operate in this sector. For instance, the service sector can include: financial institutions, schools or universities, restaurants, and hotels. Their sustainability strategic plan is a five-year roadmap that will build upon the university’s strengths, momentum, and sustainability progress. The plan is already in operation as of July 2017 and plans to be accomplished by June 2022. As with most marketing plans, NC State has developed a one-sentence description of their aspirations and who they seek to become. This one-sentence is their vision statement. The vision statement reads, “NC State develops leaders and innovations that create a more sustainable world.” This vision enhances the university’s goals and focuses on what is important to the university. NC State’s plan also incorporated a mission statement, which reads, “Engaging campus and community in creating a more sustainable future.” This statement is a unique purpose indicating what they intend to accomplish, the market in which it operates, and the philosophical premises that guide action (Dahlstrom & Crosno, 2018). Their campaign and marketing plans (Click here for marketing plans) also includes five goals to help motivate those individuals involved. The goals include: student leadership; academics; operations, planning and design; community and culture; and communication. This policy was launched in 2016 and moves toward water neutrality, zero waste, and greenhouse gas neutrality. Further, the college has to sustainable actions to their football stadium. Recently the college decided to recycle stadium bleachers to improve the fan experience. They took into consideration whether or not the recycling the seats would be cost effective. It was cost effect as they sold the metal seats to offset the cost of paying to remove the seats from the stadium. The efforts to recycle the stadium seats touchs all facets of the triple bottom-line. Further, there is a on campus organization call Carolina Conscious. This organization provided students with eco-friendly solo cups. Unlike regular solo cups who are not recyclable due to the No. 6 thermoplastic polystyrene, this cup turns into soil within 50 day. Another benefit of the cups is that they bring awareness about the topic of sexual assault to campus.
