I have been able to work side-by-side with a Pathologists ' Assistant since day one and because of this, I fully understand their role in the medical society. I owe a lot of what I learned as a grossing technician to them because of their guidance, input, and examples. The more I asked them questions and the more I watched them work, the more captivated I became by their role and realized I wanted to be in their position. As a result, I believe that my close working relationship with the Pathologists ' and Pathologists ' Assistants, as well as the exposure and knowledge I have gained by working in the department will help me succeed, particularly in Loma Linda University 's Pathologists ' Assistant program. Loma Linda University is a good fit for me a few reasons.
The first section is about the introduction of my speech. The specific purpose and central idea in my speech were clear. I would say I gained most of my audience’s attention in the introduction and that it was effective. My attention getter does orient the audience to my topic. I think it snagged most people’s attention and did motivate my audience to listen.
January 22nd, 2018, I had the honor of interviewing Nahshon Newson, a certified nursing assistant (cna) in Smyrna, De. Mr. Newson has completed the Cna course program at Delaware Technical Community College, which took place from February 2017 until May 2017. Completion of this course allowed him to receive a certificate to become a cna. Mr. Newson then applied for a job in his field as a cna at Pinnacle Rehabilitation. He started working with Pinnacle in April of 2017, about nine months ago.
Reflecting on the past seven weeks I have acquired countless knowledge, which I will use to further strengthen my profession as an Advanced Practice Nurse. The course allowed me to think beyond my current practice knowledge and acquired innovative ways to evaluate the situation at hand. The learning objective in program outcome four helps set standards that I will use to guide my clinical practice to meet various healthcare needs. Using the case studies has helped to further enhance my knowledge on disease physiological state, using differential diagnosis, disease manifestations, and clinical presentation. It has also taught me the skills on how to differentiate between similar diagnoses to properly identify the problem and treat the patients.
“It 's not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.” Those wise words come from the one and only, Mother Teresa. Her quote comes to mind when I think of the career Certified Nursing Assistant. Another is “It takes a special person to do what you do, I don 't know if I could handle it”.
When I first started out in the Medical Assistant program at Central Nine, I was a little scared are hurting the person I was taking blood from. As time went on though, I became much more comfortable and confident when drawing blood on someone. Mrs.Pfeiffer from C9 always told the students that you can worry about the patient when the needle is in them but as soon as the needle comes out, it is about you. I definitely understand why she told us that because if that needle was to accidentally prick you after it was already in the patient, you can run into some serious problems.
This portfolio represents the professional and academical achievements of my educational career in the course over the years. It is the compilation of the hard work I have completed and my accomplishments that illustrate my strengths, problem-solving ability, work ethic, responsibility and moral and professional values. All of the education obtained during these years and the effort put in has given me the required knowledge, experience, values, professional behaviors, and ethical standards to make me a stronger and well prepared professional nurse. It has been a long journey since I started my nursing education becoming a CNA, nurse assistant, then a practical nurse LPN. Continuing with my education I became a registered nurse (RN) and now I am finishing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
What is reflection? Reflection is described as the process individuals use for self-development in their future career. The process of reflection has been used for many years in professional health fields such as midwifery and nursing (Lillyman. S & Merrix. P, 2012). Florence nightingale pioneered the practice known as reflection-on-practice, this is a tool that is needed in developing improvement and knowledge to enable an individual to grow in their nursing profession.
Through this course of health professional education we took many topics whish are related to our life in general and in college in specificity. However, the most common that four that I enjoyed and learned from a lot are time management, E-learning, and leadership skills. What I learned from time management is the skills to how to manage my time effectively in many useful ways that has made my life more productive. Also I learnt how to achieve my goals in less time using some good technics such as 20-80 rule. Another thing that I knew is time management stages and it is arrangement which also helped me to achieve all my goals.
Although reflection is an imperative foundation of nursing practice, it is only effective in promoting future clinical practice when the practitioner continually identifies their weaknesses and strengths to support their personal growth. They will also be required to develop this process during their practice to improve outcomes for service users (Johns, 2013). In accordance to the NMC revalidation process (2015) school nurses are required to provide a record of their knowledge and how it promotes their clinical practice. Clinical reflection is identified as a recognised educational tool for this process (Queens Nursing Institute, 2015). Duke and Appleton (2000) did a literature review and devised a framework of critical reflection, which illustrates eight stages as compare to Gibbs’s (1998) reflective model that consist of six stages. I chose Gibbs reflective model not only it is easy to comprehend but also to illustrate a critical incident.
Introduction/Description The purpose of this essay is to deliver a reflective account of the learning and educating actions required to change a stoma bag. A third year student carried out the actions required to complete the task within a ward setting. The Royal College of Nursing (RCN), 2015 describe reflection as a process where nurses are given the opportunity to reflect on significant events that have taken place and explore their knowledge and practical skills in an objective way. Using analysis and evaluating the nurses actions, provides a learning opportunity, allowing future practice to be improved including professional development and patient safety (Nursing and Midwifery Council, (NMC) 2015).
Evaluation of my skills and guidance for my professional development require both self-reflection on my work as a healthcare assistant and criticism from others. I can recognize my areas of strength, my regions for growth, and my areas for improvement thanks to these techniques. Self-Reflection: Engaging in regular self-reflection allows me to critically assess my performance, actions, and decisions.
Investing my time in the care of my patient gives the opportunity to not only assist them in a difficult situation, but also to learn more about their diagnosis and the treatment, while comparing it to what we have learned in class. For example, I had a patient that suffered from Sickle Cell Disease and came to the ER during a crisis. Correlating this case to the books and the content learned in class, these patients receive at least 1000 mL of fluids, pain medication, and oxygen. Additionally, I had a patient with meningitis. This individual presented with common symptoms such as nuchal rigidity, muscle pain, fever, and chills.
Evolution from Novice to a Beginning Professional Nurse Looking back when I started my nursing school, I can proudly say that I have evolved both physically and psychologically. I was not sure if nursing was the right choice for me at first because I had difficulties interacting with people outside my family circle. The first semester was challenging for me because I did not know how to interact with my class mates and felt isolated each time there is a class activity. I joined a study group later that semester and it has been an excitement ever since.
