The NICU is a Neonatal intensive care unit is a special area for premature and sick babies, they go there to receive the help they need, and some babies need help to breathe or they are missing something in their body. They can also come early before their due date and they are sent there to receive their special help. To be a neonatal nurse, you have to be a registered nurse in the (RN) with a four-year Bachelor of Science in a nursing degree is your (BSN). You must be certified in the NICU; you have to complete a minimum of year’s clinical experience in a hospital place. You also have to have licenses from the state giving you permission to do the things you learned.
I am interested in your New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Boston and recently obtained my MA RN license in August 2015. I choose to be an RN because I love learning about the anatomy and physiology of the human body and working with people. A career as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is a natural extension of my personal, educational, and research experiences. Although my path to nursing has not been a straight line, every experience that put me on this path has shaped my passion and dedication to psychiatric nursing. After losing loved ones to suicide at a young age, I made a promise to myself and to them that I would dedicate my life to helping individuals struggling with mental illness. I just completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and look forward to exploring nursing theory, evidence-based practice and leadership even further in the advance practice curriculum. I am pursuing family nurse practitioner because it will allow me to be more versatile in my nursing skills and serve a larger patient population. There has been a focus on primary care medicine since the Affordable Care Act; resulting in a larger need for nurse practitioners required to care for this patient population. As the 6th child in a family of 10, I grew up witnessing the struggle that my parents went through to get us to where we are today. We came to America when I was five years old and we were stuck in a two bedroom apartment until my parents saved up enough money to move out. We were very poor and had very little money for food. Eating once a day was the harsh reality and the constant headaches from not having enough calories inside my system will always be in my memories. My brothers and I didn’t understand why the other students had better clothes to wear or why we couldn’t go on any fieldtrips.
I am driven and determined to have a career in nursing by becoming a student at NYU College of Nursing. My main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from a deep desire to help people. Nurses have the ability to see people at their worst, while helping them become their best. This is the most rewarding experience and an experience that I want to obtain. Prescriptions, hospice, suturing, and diagnosis are all words I grew up hearing frequently in my home. Hardly did I hear words like physical fitness, mind-over-body, relaxation, or stress management. From an early age, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in health care. As I began to explore the options available in the field of medicine, I realized that encouraging a focus towards well care would most benefit the changing needs of the world. Through my undergraduate courses, I was able to better understand the responsibility amongst physicians in shaping a patient’s quality of life.
Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to make a difference and help anyone in need that I possibly could. From the start of my childhood, I can recall helping my mother care for my great grandparents, so they would be able to live out the rest of their lives from their home, instead of in a nursing home. As a young child it was extremely difficult to live with and watch my loved ones deteriorate as they got older, as their condition got worse and worse, and saw my mother having a difficult time keeping up with caring for both of my great grandparents 24/7, it put a lot of stress on the family. However, I am grateful to have been able to help my mother care for them. Growing up in such a caring and loving household made the situation
I became interested in public health following a conversation surrounding my career choices with my older sister who currently work as a Nurse Manager. It all started with me reflecting on my life, and where it was heading post undergrad and working in job fields that were not fulfilling and satisfying. Henceforth I was determined to find a program that arouse passion and filled me with joy when thinking about countless possibilities I would have to help the community at large and started researching the avenues I can take with an MPH degree. I had always been fascinated with health care and wanted to be a part of the health field, but would often pull away from the notion as I thought all of health care consist of medical and clinical practices,
I want to express my gratitude to the nursing department for the opportunity to be readmitted into the Appalachian State bachelor of science in nursing program for the spring 2018 semester. Learning form my instructors, especially through my interactions involving patients and other healthcare providers has influence my decision to continue studying with the Nursing program. Subjects involving Nursing and Medicine are more interesting to me now that I could witness them during my clinical experiences.
