The NICU is a Neonatal intensive care unit is a special area for premature and sick babies, they go there to receive the help they need, and some babies need help to breathe or they are missing something in their body. I am interested in your New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Boston and recently obtained my MA RN license in August 2015. Personal Statement for Nursing School “When a person decides to become a Nurse. They make the most important decision of their lives. They choose to dedicate themselves to the care of others” Growing up in Nigeria; I had my first introduction to the field of medicine at the age of 6. At the time, my grand father was a holistic doctor at my local community. Whenever my grandfather went to work, he would take me with him and I remembered being very fascinated by how people would come in to get treatments for different kinds of diseases.
I just completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and look forward to exploring nursing theory, evidence-based practice and leadership even further in the advance practice curriculum. I am pursuing family nurse practitioner because it will allow me to be more versatile in my nursing skills and serve a larger patient population. There has been a focus on primary care medicine since the Affordable Care Act; resulting in a larger need for nurse practitioners required to care for this patient population. I have been granted an opportunity to advance my career and I am more than ready to take on the added responsibilities and handle treatment plans autonomously, as well as learning additional skills such as diagnosing and prescribing medications. By obtaining my graduate level education my clinical judgment would be enhanced to improve safety, quality of care and patient outcomes substantially.

As the 6th child in a family of 10, I grew up witnessing the struggle that my parents went through to get us to where we are today. We came to America when I was five years old and we were stuck in a two bedroom apartment until my parents saved up enough money to move out. We were very poor and had very little money for food. Eating once a day was the harsh reality and the constant headaches from not having enough calories inside my system will always be in my memories. My brothers and I didn’t understand why the other students had better clothes to wear or why we couldn’t go on any fieldtrips.
I am a strong believer in preventative measures when it comes to combating disease and disorders, by encouraging the health and immune systems of individuals to naturally inhibit these afflictions. I will take action in pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in agroecology and plant sciences, which will take me into the career of agricultural consulting from the extent of farms to household gardens. This career path will allow me to promote the most nutrient dense foods and biodiversity; the key constituent to a healthy immune system, to the diets of our local communities. I have confidence in a contemporary approach to health care that emphasizes health and resorts to pharmaceutical medication only when necessary.
Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to make a difference and help anyone in need that I possibly could. From the start of my childhood, I can recall helping my mother care for my great grandparents, so they would be able to live out the rest of their lives from their home, instead of in a nursing home. As a young child it was extremely difficult to live with and watch my loved ones deteriorate as they got older, as their condition got worse and worse, and saw my mother having a difficult time keeping up with caring for both of my great grandparents 24/7, it put a lot of stress on the family. However, I am grateful to have been able to help my mother care for them. Growing up in such a caring and loving household made the situation
When I was twelve years old, I relied on my Magic 8 Ball to help me try out for the junior high cheerleading squad. The Magic 8 Ball is a toy that you ask a question, give it a little shake, and it provides you with an answer. In my case, my Magic 8 Ball’s response on whether or not I would make the squad was “It is decidedly so”. Unfortunately, I did not make the squad that year. In retrospect, the outcome was obvious.
Teaching and nursing are two careers that equally appeal to me. I am drawn to both, and have a strong family history in both lines of work. Unsure which profession I want to ultimately work towards after high school, I set out to find an answer. My goal was to use my senior project as a tool to help me decide between the two. Being more familiar with nursing, I thought it would be a great idea to gain more experience in the world of teaching, and I could not have chosen a better project!
My rotations out in the rural communities taught me how to prioritize care for those who cannot afford undergoing expensive diagnostics and the importance of primary prevention. Working with doctors, nurses and my colleagues taught me the importance of working as a team. In short, every aspect of my student life was part of a valuable learning
