Hello Pius,

While I do agree obesity is a national issue, I don’t agree that buffets are to blame there have always been all you can eat buffets. I would put the blame more on the lack of exercise starting in childhood due to technology and the distraction it is for children, as a child I remember spending all day outside from sun up to sun down I was outside every day I was allowed and wasn’t stuck in school. Now things are much different “AAP has estimated that the average child can spend upwards of 7 hours of TV, internet usage and video games per day! The scary thought is that everything else is taking a back seat including: quality family time, reading, homework, and exercise.”(Florida Hospital Medical Center.) It is a lot of factors going into the rise of obesity but I would say buffets aren’t the majority problem. You can go to a restaurant like outback and order loaded cheese fries and intake 800 plus calories or a single dish from olive garden and intake 1,000. When I was a child I was so active and so healthy and ate whatever I wanted on top of at least two balanced meals a day provided by my family as I didn’t much care for breakfast. If healthy lifestyles are shown to children when they are younger they develop the right habits so when they grow up and their bodies change they will continue those goods habits. Teaching a child to brush their teeth when they are merely baby teeth and we all know they will fall seems useless unless you see the need for the healthy habit to be formed so when the adult teeth come in they already know how to take care of them. I think you did a great job touching on that obesity isn’t just about excessive body mass it can create heart disease and high blood pressure and the countless other problems you mentioned. Crash diets are dangerous and they aren’t made to be maintained they are made to be done in 5 days and then go back to your daily life but when you lose weight the fat cells only shrink and they will always be there ready at any time you go back to your old ways to
