Ever wonder why obesity has grown so much then what is was? Statistics have shown how much obesity has grown since the 1900s. In the 1950s 10 percent of U.S adults were classified as obese. In 2011-2012 approximately 35 percent of U.S adults were classified as obese. (Sara Police) Obesity among American adults has tripled within the last 6 decades. People do not realize what they are actually eating. If people actually took sometime to look into what they are eating they might even be shocked and stop eating. America does not realize how much damage obesity does. You do not only get “fat” from eating at fast food places, you can also do more damage to your actual health, not just your appearance. The more fast food places we have the more options we have. That is not the only thing that has changed, restaurant meals are 4 times larger than what they used to be in the 1950s. The bigger the meal the more calories it can contain. For examples hamburgers have expanded by 53 percent , and snacks like potato chips, crackers, pretzels have increased by 60 percent. The more food people are served the more they will eat because they receive a bigger proportion. The size of our meal makes a big part of obesity. Maybe if the meals now were like the meals before, smaller in portion, we would not have as much obesity as we do now.

Obesity is a problem, but the problem behind that is laziness. These do not make a good combination. Let’s say I have a nice Big Mac and instead of going to the gym later to work off the calories, I decide to stay home and take a nap because i got too lazy to go, to the gym. See how much that is a part of becoming obese? Many of us would rather nap then go outside and go for a jog, which causes lack of exercise. If your eating habits are poor and your exercise habits are too, you are basically choosing the path to become obese. Americans even stop by a fast food restaurant everyday because they are so exhausted from work and do not feel like cooking a healthy home meal. We chose to ignore the problem until we are actually caught deep in the situation which means we choose to ignore it until we go to the doctors and get the news that we have some sort of problem with our health. Obesity can cause many things to endanger your health. Obesity can cause diabetes, high blood pressure, coronary vascular disease, a heart attack, a stroke, and possibly cancer; those are only a few health issues that you can get there are still many more. It causes damage internal and external. There are so many consequences that can happen with havin obesity that people chose to ignore. If we keep ignoring the situation America is going to go even more downhill then what we are already. We need to help put a stop to this before it gets completely out of hand. If we had certain types of programs for kids to keep them active it may help. Kids tend to follow in their parents footsteps. If children see their parents eating everything and not taking care of themselves that is the type of lifestyle they get use to. Adults should be setting a better example to their kids and teaching them how good it is to have a healthy meal. If we all just worked together on solving this problem we could make a difference. America needs to start by showing everyone the consequences of obesity and how unsafe it
