While I lived in Syria, my family and I faced extensive restrictions on freedom of expression and my religious beliefs as Christians. Therefore, I understand the value of what the USA offers in terms of freedom of expression and religion. As I lived as a religious minority in Syria and now as a religious and cultural minority in the United States, I can relate to other underrepresented groups in this country. Finally, because I speak three languages (Arabic, French, and English), I am developing my own personal brand of being me: a blend of the Arabic and United States’ culture, which seems especially pertinent when I see how many in the USA are reacting to Arab Americans and recent Middle Eastern immigrants. Therefore, I will bring this blend of experiences to all that I do inside and outside of the classroom at
