During my childhood, Rutgers University was a name I heard often. My parents both graduated from Rutgers and frequently told me about their positive experiences there. This spurred an interest within me to learn more about the school. I delved into everything I could find online including virtual tours and alumni reviews; however, through an enlightening self-guided college visit and multiple informing conversations with the current students, I realized that Rutgers was much more than I initially thought and pondered, ”What I can get and give to this institution?”. In the spectrum of diversity, Rutgers is well above the national average in the categories of student ethnicity, gender, and culture; I have also heard from many current students and alumni that it is a breeding ground of new ideas and viewpoints. This intellectual diversity is important to me because it can expand my perspective and horizons, allowing me to cultivate and refine my worldviews and opinions in the proverbial melting-pot of ideas that exists on the Rutgers campus: making Rutgers more appealing than other institutions. Rutgers boasts a large number of intriguing clubs and sports. Attending these clubs and sports teams would allow me to foster relationships with peers who share the same interests. Two notable clubs that caught my eye were the Rutgers Economics Society and the Rutgers Fencing Club. Although I am undecided on my major, the Rutgers Economics Society is a great place to develop a passion and learn from other students. RECONS hosts many events, such as the career series, skill-building workshops, and sponsoring firm recruiting events. In addition, being a nationally ranked fencer, the Fencing Club offers me a way to keep my skills and compete regularly while also allowing me to contribute my skills and make an overall stronger
