Within the workplace, employees influence the company in many ways. Employees not only can help the profitability of the company, but also the overall atmosphere of the workplace. Employee behaviors and attitudes can affect the workplace and overall productivity. Workplace behavior is behavior in the workplace that can affect job performance and citizenship behavior and attitudes affec absenteeism, and turnover (Bauer & Berrin, 2014). The workplace that will be analyzed is the HCA Ocala Regional Medical Center Pharmacy department. The Pharmacy department has 45 employees that consist of 25 pharmacists and 20 pharmacy technicians. Positive Organization Citizenship Behavior Organization Citizenship Behaviors are defined as “voluntary behaviors employees perform to help others and benefit the organization” (Bauer & Berrin, 2014). There are five dimensions of Organization Citizenship Behaviors which include altruism, conscientiousness, sportsmanship, courtesy, and civic virtue behaviors (Shragay & Tziner, 2011). Within the Pharmacy department, there are a couple of examples of Organization Citizenship behavior. Within the department, there are examples of employees that do not take full advantage of vacation time or paid time off. Employees will occasionally show up sick to work rather than call in potentially not completing work. There are examples of people that perform duties over and beyond what are expected and working to get other employees interested about the company. People who perform poorly and have negative organizational citizenship behavior are more likely to leave the company. The pharmacy department has had a large turnover of pharmacy technicians through the years. The technicians as a whole have a larger quantity of negative organizational citizenship behavior. In the group of employees, the pharmacists with the organization tend to be with the facility for longer periods of times. Compared to the two groups, the pharmacists on average work with the department for 18 years. The technicians work on average for 12 years.
