After I have read the Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I realized that there were multiple different symbols that helped convey complex ideas. For me I have found that in the Novel there are three important symbols that help shape the plot of the story and these are Methuselah the Parrot, Palindromes: Which is Ada’s journal, and lastly the green Mamba snake that killed Ruth May. The significance about all of these symbols is that they tend to add a meaning and depth to the story.

There are often lots and lots of different ways to tell when something is being used as a symbol. Usually symbols are super easy to find and figure out. In most of the books I have to read for school the symbols are really common ones like a raven for death or a sunrise for a new start. Other popular symbols are colors. Colors like black often symbolism death.
The symbol I chose was God for Eli because he does talk about God quite often during his days in the holocaust from the book Night. This picture I choose is a pile of dead bodies to represent death for the symbol God. The reason I choose this picture because Eli had witnessed a lot of cruel things at a young age. He had worshipped God so much and had trust and love for him.
After hearing that his younger brother, Sonny, has been put in jail due to drug use, he remembers his childhood, and how they both never did really get along. Both Sonny and the narrator feel a sense of “darkness outside”, and this “darkness” is what creates the miscommunication between the brothers (Baldwin 338). Sonny changed his normality due to not being noticed during his childhood, and the drastic change causes the older brother to feel uncomfortable seeing his brother, because Sonny told him that “he was dead as far as [he] was concerned” (351). Their struggles caused them to lose contact, and to slowly build that invisible barrier between their

In the epic poem The Odyssey Homer tells of Odysseus’s 10 year journey home from The Trojan War and how he is cast out to sea and loses his ship and all his crew. Odysseus’s ego and curiosity led to his ship and crews destruction. this is because when odysseus goes to the cyclops island he is curious about him so he stays and loses 6 men. This proves that odysseus’s decisions have directly caused the death of his crew. It can also be said that odysseus isn’t responsible because on thrinacia his crew are the ones that ate the sun gods cattle.
Throughout the epic poem, “The Odyssey,” written by Homer, we readers read through the perilous journeys taken upon Odysseus and his men, while being caught in a web of his hubris leading to his downfall. Death row inmates: Using for medical experiments “Every single year, more than 100 million animals are killed in U.S. laboratories because of medical testing” (peta.org). Of course, it is very beneficial that we test new medicines to detect, diagnose, and monitor new treatments. The inability to test new treatments would limit medical advances in fighting diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. Some have suggested using death row inmates for medical testing which would eliminate the need to use animals. According to Debatewise, “Under our definition, this House should allow medical experiments on prisoners without consent under the supervision of U.S. Department of Health & Human Services” (Debatewise).
