Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter Lab Report

An oxygen bomb calorimeter was used to determine the calorie content on two different samples, which include donut and cookie. Furthermore, a sample pellet of benzoic acid was used to calibrate the measurements and acted as a standard to determine the Ccal. Under the assumption of an ideal adiabatic calorimeter, the heat released by the sample upon combustion is equivalent to the heat absorbed by the surround medium of water. Ergo, allowing us to measure the amount of energy a food sample provides in terms of calories. The discrepancy in the results in regards to the cookie may have been caused by inadequate preparation of the apparatus between the measurements. In addition, it may be worth to investigate other food products with high sugar
