As I have done in high school, I will continue to take advantage of opportunities available and will explore my interests at Penn. I am interested in chemical engineering because it essentially intertwines my two passions, chemistry and environmental science, into one cohesive study. By studying engineering at Penn, I will have the opportunity to research solutions to environmental problems. The hands-on experience involved with studying chemical engineering equipped with my passion for what I am studying will allow me to be a successful engineer that is able to make a difference in the world. Penn allows me to explore my interests in depth by offering chemical engineering with a concentration in environmental science. In addition to studying general chemistry, I can focus on how materials affect the environment, my ultimate goal. Furthermore, in order to complete liberal arts requirements, I will be able to complete courses outside of Engineering in Penn’s …show more content…
Penn has award-winning faculty and extensive funding, allowing me to accomplish my research goals. The faculty welcome undergraduates into their projects and will even support them with their independent proposals. I plan on participating in research as early as Freshman year and continuing to study various projects throughout my undergraduate education. I am specifically interested in Professor Winey’s investigation of the conductivity of nanoparticles in polymers and am eager to explore environmental research opportunities available. As a student interested in studying abroad, I plan on traveling to Germany or Switzerland with the iSURE program to continue to learn about sustainability while exploring a new culture. Finally, I plan on completing a senior design project that allows me to incorporate the research I have conducted into creating a sustainable polymer that can be used in plastic water bottles and other disposable
