But what some people don't understand is that it's okay to be different. People’s differences are what make people evolve because of new opinions and information. The diversity of people’s traits defines who they are apart from anyone else. As shown in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout, the narrator is eager and confident in finding more mysteries, solutions, and knowledge in her hometown of Maycomb. For example, when Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird defended Tom Robinson, he ignored the neighborhood racism against him regarding that a white man shouldn't be defending a black man. And that shows Atticus as a brave and honorable person. Heroes like Mahatma Gandhi and Rosa Parks were people who stood up to their enemies during strenuous and prejudicial times, unlike other people who were unwilling to protest. Their actions influenced many people, such as M.L.K Jr. and Nelson Mandela, as well as many more people now and back then. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, a character who was often prejudiced against at the start of the book, Boo Radley, has shown his difference in a good way when he placed a blanket over Scout in Chapter 8 and when he saved the kid’s lives by warding away a racist and cranky man, Bob Ewell in Chapter 29. Although some people believe that being different can lead to non-understanding or bad thoughts, you can say the same thing about different languages or cultures, yet they are honored and practiced by lots of people. Heroes like Rosa Parks and M.L.K. Jr. were first thought by people to have bad ideas and thoughts, but even then, they made whites realize the awful racism they had been expressing. Many inventions and habits were adapted by modern people from different cultures around the world. For example, some of the current medications are developed based on the information from the Sumerians clay tablets in 5000 B.C. Differences among people are good, but not respected enough. The diversity of humanity and cultures allows us as people to learn and progress through new and different ideas, as well as expand our thoughts into creative discoveries. Some people are embarrassed to express their distinctive thoughts because they are afraid of the position they are going to be in afterward, but they don't understand that everyone in the world is unique,
