The way you can tell if a flashback from “Tangerine” by Edward Bloor is beginning by these three clues: The text is italicized, in the story he said “I came to a dead stop,” and he also said “I remembered,” When the italicized texts begins, it is mainly when something different is going to happen in the book. It happens in most of the books so that you can know something different is going to happen. When he said “I came to a dead stop,” that also usually means that he is going to think about something harsh or something that happened because usually people stop and think when they are trying to think about something happening when they were younger or something that happened that they can’t remember very well. When he also stated “I remember,”

There’s a hand-me-down quality to the clothing of those selected" (Weinstein 700). This demonstrates that in the process of choosing the child, it is not the actions of the child that gets them launched into space but the circumstances in which they live. In this scenario, the child is from a poor background and cannot afford new clothing, which leads the other kids to view him differently and in a less favorable light. Again, this is representative of social media in the modern world as it is unlikely to see someone from a less fortunate background in the “spotlight”, but instead, be considered as irrelevant and even worthless. Furthermore, it is common in the age of social media to see an individual be bullied for being from a less fortunate background.

We have had many conversations about what is and is not acceptable to wear to a church or funeral service, what kind of tops to wear with leggings, what constitutes appropriate swimwear, what not to wear when Grandma and Grandpa are around, and the list goes on and on. While I would like to attribute the noblest of motives for my expectations of what my children wear or do not wear, I have to admit that sometimes, like Aunt Alexandra, my motives are not completely noble after all. Instead of trying to understand my children’s wardrobe choices as an extension of their identity and personal preferences, I have been more concerned about what others think of me as their mother. I know that like Alexandra, I could certainly improve myself in this area of my relationship with and communication to my
