Anthem is written after the protagonist, Equality, had already reached his goal therefore the whole book is one large flashback however each scene in the book can be defined as on flashback. With help of flashbacks in Anthem, readers are able to see the whole picture and the whole story behind what has happened in their society.

Martin is a heartwarming and heart wrenching tale about a young girl named Rose and her pet dog, Rain. When Hurricane Susan hits her small town and Rain is lost, Rose’s life is swept up in the eye of the storm, and she has to learn how to navigate her feelings of melancholy and loneliness. In "Rain Reign", Ann M. Martin uses the symbolism of the rain to provide the audience with context, build suspense and stir empathy.
