During a time period that was present around 400 years ago, many colonists sought religious and economic freedom and decided to break away from the British government to form an independent nation. This area they inhabited is now called, the United States. In this time of great change, the colonists had to completely formulate a new government. Since one of the major motives for breaking off of Britain was for freedom of religion, it ended up becoming a good base for the building up of a new government. Religion gave many advantages to the growth of government through unifying the people, establishing power, and constructing order.
Through time, people have utilized different things to motivate them to better themselves, especially religion. Religion gives people a sense of direction and strength that influences their perception of daily life. In the lives of people from 1500 to 1700, religion was one of the main ways to become motivated, create connections among people, gain control, and influence/change political authority. Some rulers from 1500 to 1700 used religion to help them gain power over their people. Akbar is a good example of this.
How has your view of theology changed over the duration of this course? My view of theology hasn’t changed a whole lot over the duration of the course. Before I started this class, I thought this class was going to be about theories of Christianity and other religions. The main things of Christianity I already knew through confirmation classes as a kid in middle school.
They helped me understand the ideas on which I based my beliefs off. A good portion of my spiritual journey in the first few years after rededicating my life to God was spent trying to understand the concepts I grew up just blindly accepting. These books and readings have helped explain how and why in ways that made sense to me. Overall I believe that this class has helped secure me in the foundations of my
I cherish the fact that the New Testament is the means to eternal life and explains the grace of Christ and salvation. In John 6:68, it says that Jesus Christ has, “the words of eternal life”. Additionally, the New Testament includes words that provided me with a sense of knowledge, appreciation, and happiness. In John 1:4, it reads, “And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full”. Overall, this class was fantastic because it opened up my eyes as too the amount of rich history and analysis that must be taken to understand the significance of the times of Jesus’s birth and how past events are interpreted today.
I believed my understanding of Christianity at the start of our course to be fairly strong. My mother had us go to mass everyday up to high school and I felt I was knowledgeable on Christian topics like evil, sin, and God as a whole. Throughout this course, I have learned through discussion and text that I have only just scratched the surface of what our faith must bring. I have found that I am not alone in several the questions that plague my daily life.
I interviewed my mom, Catherine Farrar, for the religion interview assignment. My mom was raised Catholic, but stopped attending church in college and never looked back. She is a feminist, and the Catholic Church is simply not conducive to feminist beliefs. Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s piece, “The Introduction to The Women’s Bible” seemed to mirror my mom’s stance on the issue; the Bible was written by men, for men, with the goal of achieving power over others. Clearly, the Bible does not favor women, and this is true for many religious texts.
A Christian Worldview of Research In the world of research, a person with a Christian worldview should stick out from the rest. Christian researchers need to be the models of moral behavior, treat ethical issues according to scripture, and create an environment with their actions, words, and attitudes. It is imperative that Christians see medical research not as part of the secular worldview, but be non-judgmental, and treat fellow investigators and study participants regardless of sickness, need, ethnic background, religious status or financial situation. Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”
So, a Faith Statement, I dreaded writing this out because I didn’t really know what to say. I was conflicted. There was the fact that I had to write it, but then again I also don’t have much faith to state. What I mean is, I didn’t want to write something that was dishonest, and I didn’t want to write something that was a little too over the line. When I’m in church or doing something for church, I like to be honest.
Many times, especially at Bible College it gets monotonous and even robotic to say that Jesus is the reason why we have peace with the Father as it is said many times and loses its meaning. While reading up and researching for this, the love and appreciation I have for all that Jesus went through for me personally is exhilarating and rekindles the appreciation I have for all that He has done. Secondly, this helps to get me more confident as I add to reasons as to why Jesus is the messiah long awaited for. Growing up in a Christian household, I have just believed and shared that Jesus is the messiah because it was what was told to me as child. Now in researching it and seeing for myself that Jesus corresponds to a prophecy that was written about 700 years before is mind-blowing and helps me to be way more cemented in my
Christianity is the biggest religion in the world with over two billion believers to date. Christianity has many different denominations such as Baptist, Catholic, Orthodox, Episcopal, and Methodist, just to name a few. Even though Christianity has many different denominations most believe in an afterlife and Jesus Christ as their savor. In Christianity the belief is that God’s son Jesus died for our sins and all that believe in Jesus Christ as being our lord and savor go to heaven. The reason for all who believe in Jesus Christ go to heaven is because God put Jesus on Earth to forgive us for our sins and without believing in and accepting Jesus our sins will not be forgiven.

Christianity has become a target of mockery in today’s society. We see this on the television, the internet, and in our own towns and cities. In most cases, one cannot go throughout a whole day around other people without hearing someone use Jesus’ name or God’s name in vain. On websites such as Facebook, it is common to see people refer to Christians by vulgar names for a cheap laugh. But, there is an even more sinister problem: the religious adherents themselves mocking Christianity.
The Difference in the Christian Worldview from India’s Major Religions. The Christian worldview is based on the premise that Jesus Christ is the incarnation of God, born of Mary, a virgin, in 3AD. Jesus lived to be 33 years old, as he lived a sinless life and performed many miracles that culminated with his death and resurrection on the cross. After Jesus’s death on the cross, he returns 3 days later, appearing to his disciples and 500 followers, promising his followers that he will return gain, and gather all his followers to live eternally with him and God the Father.
