A Personal Interview
Does being a good Catholic make a difference when it comes to running a business? I interviewed business owner Ralph Rockamann of Sportsprint and he said “Yes”. Ralph Rockamann continued to say “Business ethics and my religion ethics are the deepest layers of Sportsprint, because it is the heart and soul of the company and the reason for my success for over forty years”. In a study, done by The Institute of Business Ethics, “Does Business Ethics Pay?" Trust is defined, is “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, and truth of a business” (Telephone interview). Ralph Rockamann said “customers want to do business with people they can trust in- no one likes a cheater or a liar” (Telephone interview). Customers want to shop somewhere they know that the vendor or sales person will deal with them fairly (Smith). Also, managers like to have workers that are dependable and show up on time every day. Furthermore, managers like workers who can be trusted to take responsibility. If a person is honest, keeps their promises and is capable of taking on responsibility, then they will feel good about themselves (Sklarz). There is a level of self-respect, in knowing that you are deserving of others' trust (Moment). Giving back to the community will help the business bring in lots (Hodges). In 2012 a study was done by Cone Communications that showed that over 85 percent of clients have “a better outlook on businesses that give back to a charity they care about” (Hodges). Being a part of a program lets the customers see that your business really does care about community (Hodges). Lastly, the best benefit of having your business help a charity is the feeling that you have helped someone in need (Hodges).
