Interview About Classroom Procedures I interviewed a 1st grade teacher about her classroom procedures and about their importance within the classroom. We discussed the various classroom procedures, such as attention routines, routine, daily paperwork, student movement, paper flow, and unexpected cleaning that happens within the classroom, along with why they are so important. While I have not observed this teacher within the classroom, I could tell by her passion while we spoke just how important classroom procedures are to her and the balance of the classroom.

For lunch, she tells the students the menu options for the day and then has them line up according to their choice so that they are grouped together. For classwork, passing out papers, collecting papers, grading, roll taking, and other records, she has students listed alphabetically and then she assigns a number to each student as well. This number is on everything that is related to the student, including all of their work, and thus she is able to organize the folders this way and all of their assignments. She takes roll by seeing which folders are missing when she looks in the file box that she collects them. She will call their name and if they do not answer she knows that they did not just forget to turn in their folder, they are absent. She did indicate that it can take a while to collect classwork in order and to utilize the numbering system, however it saves time on organizing papers later and also with grading. A specific number of fingers will indicate what the student needs to do and then she will give a nod or a shake if they are permitted to do so. Pencils are number one with a raised hand and they exchange their dull pencil for a sharpened one. They also have the chance before the bell rings to sharpen two pencils for the day, otherwise, they are not permitted to use the pencil sharpener during learning times. Two fingers up indicate that they need a tissue and three fingers up is a request for water. Four fingers indicates the need for the bathroom, and a whole hand raised means the student has a question. She reflected on the importance of this system during learning and also while she is working with small groups, as it creates the least amount of disruptions throughout the
