I had a few jobs here and there growing up. I mostly did a lot of babysitting jobs. When I was 16 going on 17 my first real job was working as a cashier at County Market. I still remember what we all had to wear; black dress pants, a button-down white dress shirt, a red apron that said County Market and a tie. Girls had to wear their hair pulled up. When we had a few minutes of downtime, us cashiers would use receipt paper to write little notes to one another.

The next night he got a ride over to my house in Centerville. We walked all over town and talked for hours. He was a student at Richmond, and I was a student at Centerville, so we didn’t get to see each other as much as other couples. Every chance we got, we spent it together and sometimes we even ditched school to spend the day together.
So times goes by, and we both get our licenses which make seeing one another easier. Matt got a car the day of prom which made seeing one another a lot easier as well. On November fourth, 1998 Matt came over to the house and was acting very nervous. He asked me to go with him to pay the rent for his mom. I said ok, and we drove to the people’s house to give them a check, which we have done many times before. So, he goes and gives them the check and comes back and we just sit there for a few minutes talking. He looks over at me and with shaky hands, he hands me a ring box. I look inside, and it was an engagement ring. He said, “will you marry me?” I, of course, said, “ Yes!”
So this was the story of how an ordinary day at my first job created the background for my true love story. We got married on Halloween of 2002, and we just celebrated our 14th wedding
