How I survived against racism
In the fifth grade, I had a wonderful teacher who cared for all her students no matter of race, gender, nation, political identity, or interests. When she taught controversial topics, she taught well knowing that some students may be offended and tried her best to make the insulted being feel better. After the third month of school, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to miss the next 4 months of the year. During that time, a substitute came in to fill her place in the classroom’s society. This new teacher did not care for all her students. She cared only for non-asian students. This new teacher would try her hardest to dock a few points off our tests and assignments, were handed punishments more frequently, yelled at constantly, told us that our blood was filthy, and called us names in class. Everyone did their part and nobody had any problems with anyone in the class. It was like that for the first three months of school. What changed this was my teacher getting diagnosed with breast cancer. She had to leave for chemotherapy. Our new teacher pretty much acted the way described above. The asian parents were extremely upset and informed the principal of the situation. Or principal, to be honest, was not much better. She informed the parents she would supervise a class and act accordingly. While our principal was supposed to be supervising, she spent the whole class making family arrangements. The one time she caught our teacher making racial slurs against us such as “Dog-eating rapists”, our principal shrugged it off. When a student complained, our principal said, “Be quiet, it’s true.” Naturally, to keep her job, the principal told lies to the parents about how the problem was all fixed up. This was a complete lie on the principal’s part. Our parents knew that the principal was lying based on what we told them, but decided that they couldn’t do
